Events > Atlanta Healthcare Entrepreneur Meetup with Bill Nordmark and Andy Williams

On Wednesday, September 29th, HealthIT folks joined us virtually for a conversation between A.T. Gimbel, Partner at Atlanta Ventures, and Aver’s CEO and President Bill Nordmark, and CTO, Andy Williams.

These Meetups are part of an ongoing series of talks about Healthcare in Atlanta, with an objective of making Atlanta the premier place to start and grow a HealthIT business. The goal of these meetups is to facilitate connections, hear from industry professionals, and truly dig deeper into Healthcare problems that Atlanta entrepreneurs can help solve.

About the Event

The morning kicked off with 50 entrepreneurs diving into breakout room sessions. Here, they discussed the questions: “When will AI achieve widespread adoption within health care? What will be the practice areas that will lead the adoption curve?” Next, A.T., Bill, and Andy spoke about what makes a successful entrepreneur, the complexities of the healthcare industry, fundraising and much more!

Key Takeaways From the Event

What Makes a Successful Entrepreneur?

When speaking on what makes a successful entrepreneur, Bill narrowed it down to three main points:

  • Know your market. Know everything about the space, know the challenges, and know the pitfalls. If you know the space better than your peers, then you will have a leg up to being successful.
  • Fail fast. The faster you fail, the better you’re going to be, and the quicker you’ll learn and become successful.
  • Don’t chase shiny balls. Don’t build nice-to-have features for customers early on that take you away from the main vision. Chasing sales wins means you are diluting your knowledge, team value, and strategy instead of figuring out why the customer wants the feature.

He later went on to encourage entrepreneurs to surround themselves with top notch talent, build a culture of radical candor, and lean on the talent to make big decisions.

“The world is going to tell you as an entrepreneur that you’re wrong almost all of the time, but you have to power through that.”— Bill Nordmark, CEO and President of Aver
