We recently hosted Khrish Chopra, founder of NPHub at our latest Atlanta Healthcare Entrepreneur Meetup. He shared many great stories about founding the company, getting early traction, and raising money to scale up the business. Here were three key takeaways I had from the conversation.

The importance of sales and marketing

Many entrepreneurs focus too much on the “cool” technology and features while building too much too soon. Instead, really build the sales and marketing muscle early on. A good product with a great go-to-market process can outperform a better product with an average go-to-market process. Khrish stressed the importance of doing all the early sales as a founder and maintaining deep customer focus; he sold the first 300 customers himself!

Balance your founder skillset

As the business grows, the tasks and skills required to be successful evolve. The founder should have a continuous learning mindset to be curious and evolve with the business. In the process, you will learn tasks you enjoy and tasks you do not. Find someone you trust on the team to handle the things you don’t enjoy doing (but that person does). This will allow you to better scale your time as the business grows.

Find people who get things done vs. strategize

When looking to hire, Krish talked about finding people who get things done. In a startup there are always things to accomplish and fires to put out. While creating a strategy is important, you need people who can “do” and execute in uncertainty to move the ball forward. Be careful hiring people who just talk without getting things done.

I love what Krish and his team are building here in Atlanta - you can check out the recap here.
